The Department's research and educational goals are designed to address the responsibilities associated with three components. Our goals are:
- To meet basic instructional needs at a sustained level of excellence for diverse academic areas through the utilization of well-trained, knowledgeable instructors who have achieved a significant level of accomplishment in mathematics.
- To provide broad and excellent training for our majors, incorporating the principle ideas from the most significant research areas in the mathematical sciences by utilizing the instructional skills of accomplished research mathematicians.
- To provide a rich mathematical environment for graduate instruction of a world-class stature by recruitment of junior and senior faculty who have achieved significant positions of leadership in their research areas and have demonstrated a capability to assist in the development of future leaders of the mathematical community.
