The Department of Mathematics offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts (with Actuarial or Teaching focus), and Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics degrees. It also provides major contributions to the Graduate Interdisciplinary Degree Programs in the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.

The department's educational and research programs span significant areas of pure and applied mathematics, representing a broad spectrum of fields ranging from the traditional areas of pure mathematics such as analysis, algebra, geometry, and topology, to applied mathematics areas such as combinatorics, computational biology, dynamical systems, mathematical physics, numerical analysis and scientific computation.
