I plan to cover some basic facts about Teichmuller spaces from Thurston's point of view. We will quickly review the notion of hyperbolic structures on manifolds before discussing the space of such structures on a surface. We will give several characterizations of this space and endow it with a topology. Then we will informally count the dimension of the space and introduce the Fenchel-Nielsen coordinates. Time permitting, we will conclude with a bit on generalizations to what is known as "higher" Teichmuller theory.
