New TA Info

As a new Teaching Assistant (TA), you will be paid to work 20 hours per week. Depending on your assignment, your duties will vary. The Office of Graduate Studies has information about the role of a Teaching Assistant on their orientation website.

Teaching Assistants receive tuition assistance as part of their benefit.  You can read about how tuition assistance works at https://www.ma.utexas.edu/dev/math/Graduate/administrivia.html.

After your academic advising with our Graduate Advisor, you will register for classes and submit your schedule to the TA Scheduler. You will send an email to the TA Scheduler using your math email account. Please read the instructions about the email carefully.

A few days before classes begin, you will receive an email from TA Scheduler with your assignment for the new semester. The email will let you know the course and the professor for whom you will TA.

An explanation of your duties based on your assignment is available in the TA Grader Policy. The TA Grader policy for the Fall semester will be distributed just prior to the beginning of class.

There will be Seminars for new Teaching Assistants.  The time and location will be announced toward the end of August. Attendance is optional.

Your first semester as a TA, you will register for M398T, which is required for all new TAs. The University has resources available to all new Teaching Assistants.

You will receive your office assignment, office keys, and voice mail when you arrive in Austin. Take your office key assignment card to the Service Building (SER) for your office keys.

As a Teaching Assistant, you are eligible to pay Texas Resident tuition. You must apply for the In-State Tuition waiver online when you register for classes and pay your tuition and fee bill.
